Drover Launch Coming Soon!
Solar City
When I was in seventh grade, I made a presentation on renewable energy technology at the time and delivered it to my middle school science class. At that time, solar energy was prohibitively expensive, poorly distributed, and an impractical alternative to just paying your energy bill, even in the Sunshine State. Today, in my junior year of college, it is so cool to look at a company like SolarCity with awe and respect at how they have almost single-handedly transformed the solar power industry and made solar tech a viable option for our homes.
The Tesla Fleet
Tesla started once as an electric ultra-lux sports car company with the Tesla Roadster, of which they produced about 2500 models from 2008-2012.. From there, they introduced the comparatively less expensive and more widely available Model S sedan starting summer 2012 to now. After that, Tesla introduced the Model X, their electric SUV, in 2015. Finally, now in 2017, Tesla has released the Model 3, their cheapest, most consumer-friendly car to date. Let's take a look at Tesla's fleet as it exists now in Fall 2017.
The Tesla Gigafactory
Tesla, the world's foremost electric car company, is taking the renewable energy sector by storm. For decades, renewable energy has been scoffed at as a reliable means to power cars and homes because of excessive cost, lack of widespread availability, and distribution. Tesla already fought and beat this problem with the Tesla Models S and X -- relatively affordable ($60k+) consumer cars powered solely by electric motors and batteries. Throughout Tesla's adventures producing electric cars, a major issue they have encountered is the cost of lithium ion batteries. The Gigafactory is Tesla's gigantic solution.
Volvo Cars Soon to Boast Fully Electric Fleet
In light of Tesla's phenomenal success, many car manufacturers are releasing plug-in electric hybrids and fully-electric cars. Volvo Cars, however, is taking this trend to a whole new level. Founded in 1927, Volvo Cars has announced intentions to build an electric motor into every car in their fleet by 2019 -- just two short years away. This transition will mark the end of an era as over the past century the company has powered their cars solely by the internal combustion engine.
Elon Musk's "The Boring Company"
Tesla Semi Truck
In my last blog, I featured the Toyota Mirai, their self-proclaimed car of the future. In today's blog, we are going to take another glimpse at the future in discussing the Tesla Semi Truck. Although the idea of a Tesla Semi is still a whisper based off of a suggestion. In his Master Plan Deux, Elon Musk alluded to a "Tesla Semi". According to Musk, the Tesla Semi will be ready witin a few years.
Meet the Toyota Mirai
The Toyota Mirai is the world's first commercially sold hydrogen fuel cell car. Toyota believes that hydrogen fuel cell cars -- like their Mirai -- are the future of automotive transport; appropriately, the vehicle's name, "Mirai", is Japanese for 'future'. Today's blog will take a deeper look at the Mirai, answer questions such as how much it will cost if you want to by one, how hydrogen fuel cells work, and how Toyota's newest addition to their fleet compares to Drover's favorite car of the tomorrow: the Tesla Model S.
